The Turkey and the Hen: A Thanksgiving Love Story
Genre: Family Animation
Logline: A pampered, proud and naive turkey hen, descended from turkey royalty but displaced to a chicken coop, must test her true mettle as she undertakes a mission through the wilderness to rescue her turkey fiancé, free her relatives, and bring them to the Promised Land.
Synopsis: Henrietta Cassandra Raleigh is a spoiled and naïve turkey hen, descended from royalty, who is taken by a farmer from her home to live at his chicken coop. Locking horns constantly with the commanding Rooster, who runs the coop, Henrietta innocently asks him to forge a peaceful alliance with her, something airy fairy so that they can all live in love and harmony. Rooster convinces Henrietta to marry him and Henrietta does. However, she soon finds out that Rooster cannot give up his harem of hens. Henrietta divorces Rooster. Believing that the male species is out to rip the female’s heart out, Henrietta is very cautious when a royal turkey named Thomas Durbanville, descended from her own ancestors, arrives at the chicken coop. But Henrietta is swayed by Thomas’ loving and gentle, albeit timid, nature, and by his desire to take her to the Promised Land where true love reigns and all animals get along. Henrietta agrees to marry him, but the next day is Thanksgiving and she realizes that Thomas’ life is in danger. Henrietta and Thomas run away. But just as they run off, the Farmer catches Thomas and takes him into the kitchen. As the Farmer argues with his daughter over whether to kill Thomas, Fox, wily and bloodthirsty, comes and carries Thomas off. Henrietta convinces Mother Hen, Mouse and Rooster to accompany her on a trek through the wilderness to rescue Thomas.
As they journey through the wilderness, the group undergoes tests of courage and faith as they encounter Mrs. Fox, the Wolf, and the Badgers. When Henrietta is confronted with the possibility that Fox may have killed Thomas, Henrietta vows to go on believing that Thomas is still alive.
Meanwhile, in order to stop Fox from eating him, the timid Thomas reveals to Fox and his not-so-smart friend, Bear, where Thomas’ barnfull of turkey relatives is located. Fox and Bear force Thomas to take them there. All the while Thomas tries to convince Fox and Bear that they should live in peace and harmony and not kill each other. Fox and Bear won’t listen to him.
Soon, Thomas, Fox and Bear arrive at the turkey barn. But just as Fox is about to attack Thomas’ relatives, Bear has a change of heart and stops Fox. As they struggle, the turkey processing truck comes and the workers cart away all the turkeys. Fox, Thomas and Bear run after the truck, but can’t get near it because the driver has a gun.
After finding out that the barn is empty and that her relatives are missing, Henrietta faints and gives up hope, but Rooster and Mother Hen coax her out of her despair and urge her to seek the Promised Land. The group finds the tire tracks of the truck and chase after it. Henrietta overcomes her fear of wild animals as she jumps on Fox and orders him to catch up to the truck. Henrietta flies into the cab, is caught by the driver, but Thomas, finally gaining courage, attacks the driver and rescues Henrietta. Henrietta and Thomas block the driver’s side window and the truck careens into a ditch. The back flies open, releasing all the turkeys. The animals believe Henrietta and Thomas are dead, but they appear, alive.
Bear invites the whole gang over to what he calls the Promised Land: his cave where everyone is now friends. There is a Thanksgiving celebration prepared as well as the celebration of three weddings: Fox and Mrs. Fox, Rooster and Mother Hen, and Henrietta and Thomas.
A family friendly comedy, loads of fun for the kids, with a message to be thankful for what you have and to get along with others, living in faith that one day the Promised Land will become a reality. An animation that will please the holiday audience at Thanksgiving.
