Caleb the Colt
Genre: Family Easter Musical
Logline: Set in the Judea of 33 A.D., this is the story of Caleb, an undersized, rebellious talking donkey who learns to trust and obey humans, and let Jesus ride him into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
Synopsis: Caleb, an undersized talking donkey, and his master Joshua, get into trouble with almost everyone in town, including Joshua's father, Moses, the Rabbi, and the governor, Pontius Pilate. Joshua even gets two girls to fall in love with him at the same time, proposes marriage, and proposes to ride Caleb into Jerusalem on his bar mitzvah day to impress them. However, this interferes with Caleb’s plans to prove he is a manly donkey and marry one of Joshua’s girlfriend’s donkeys. Caleb’s adopted father, the Rooster Red, tells Caleb that Joshua is just using Caleb for his own selfish ends. Caleb starts to mistrust all humans and refuses to let anyone ride him. We watch Caleb’s comical antics as he learns to regain his trust in humanity, to reconcile with Joshua, and to allow the greatest Person who ever lived, Jesus, to ride him into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
An Easter musical for family audiences, “Caleb the Colt” comes with a 10-song original score.

Robert Flaxman, the top script analyst in Hollywood, says:
"I see a great number of plays that attempt what you now have achieved- a lovable, heartfelt piece that maintains its momentum from start to finish. "Caleb" entertains not only its target audience, the young ones, but should please the older ones who love them. Your final product didn't happen by accident. It took perseverance, creativity and hard work. The key to "Caleb's" success, however, is that it flows effortlessly as though it wrote itself."
Rick Beresford, Nashville commercial songwriter, who has had songs
recorded by such artists as George Jones, Don Williams, Mickey Gilley,
the Everly Brothers, John Conlee, B.J. Thomas, and Brenda Lee, with
two BMI awards and a Music City News award to his credit, says:
"Job well done! Very well put together! I thought the characters
were well developed and the plot was well put together, interesting,
romantic, and fun. I've read plays from many clients and "Caleb
the Colt" is by far the best. I'd love to see this play. Great
work!"
Scott Myers, MDiv, screenwriter; Vice-President, Creative Affairs, Trailblazer Studios, member, WGA whose credits include K-9, Alaska, and Trojan War, and feature projects for every major studio, including Universal, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and Disney, writes of the script:
"I think it’s a clever concept, written with obvious passion, and hopefully, a buyer will see some solid economic opportunity in producing this.”
